This is a cute snack that can help you cool off on a hot summer day or night, and won’t impact your Paleo eating one bit. That’s because it uses just two ingredients in this sandwich, so it’s just a matter of cutting them up and eating them. The way they’ve presented it makes it a great party dish, because who doesn’t like eating things off of toothpicks. The trickiest part is getting the cucumbers and watermelon to be cut into the same sized squares so that they look good. If you’re just making a snack for yourself you don’t have to be so exact.

Dairy is a touchy subject. It’s widely considered a gray area in the Paleo community. Much of the world’s population cannot tolerate lactose, the sugar found in milk. Mass commercially-produced milk comes from industrially farmed cows, undesirable from both a health and ethical standpoint. That said, grass-fed and pasture-raised cows produce higher-quality milk. Fermented dairy, like yogurt and kefir, also offers the benefits of probiotics. If you choose to consume dairy, opt for the quality stuff. Otherwise, try additive-free nut and coconut milks.

They’ve removed any trace of grains, and are using coconut flour to put them into bar form, with just the right amount of honey to make these sweet but not overly so. The use of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger really balances out the flavor profile for these, and you can eat them between breakfast and lunch, or between lunch and dinner so they’re very good to have handy.
Yes I’m superstitious and so far I did the same thing to my body this time that I did last year. I never had issues training or running halfs so I’m seriously considering my reasons to marathon… I think if it were just me I’d run halfs. So that tells me I’m letting outside pressure get to me for no reason. I’d rather run forever then hang up my laces. Sorry rant over but I’m really happy to make these powerful discoveries:)

Unless you’ve been living under a (ahem, Paleolithic) rock, you’ve heard about the paleo diet. The diet may lead to weight loss in the short term, as well as lower blood pressure, controlled blood sugar, and other possible benefits. (1, 2) So it’s no surprise that this eating approach has gained popularity since the publication in 2010 of the hit book The Paleo Diet, authored by Loren Cordain, PhD, a professor emeritus at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins and the founder of the paleo diet movement.
These researchers point out that there are plenty of reasons to suggest that the low-fat-is-good-health hypothesis has now effectively failed the test of time. In particular, that we are in the midst of an obesity epidemic that started around the early 1980’s, and that this was coincident with the rise of the low-fat dogma. (Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease, also rose significantly through this period.)
Bell peppers are a member of the nightshade family and although some people don’t tolerate digesting them well, they are considered paleo as most people don’t experience any ill effects and only benefit from their high nutrient content. Enjoy these vitamin C loaded vegetables raw or add them to meals for the disease protecting, anti-inflammatory effects of vitamin A, E and potassium content. 

These little sandwiches are really pushing the limits of a conventional sandwich. Bacon is serving as the “bread” and guacamole is the thing getting sandwiched. For example, there’s olive oil, which is used to help roast the seeds, but it also helps the paprika and salt stick to the seeds so you get flavor on each one.

2017 Update: these Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies are the BOMB, and one of my favorite/your favorite recipes on the site. You guys seriously LOVE this one, and I don’t blame you. They’re so good. But…they also needed a photo update, so I’m republishing the post with the new photos! Unfortunately, I’m long out of college, but leaving the original post written below for nostalgia’s sake. A strict paleo diet does not allow dairy products because hunter-gatherers did not milk cows. Some paleo dieters say dairy is OK, especially if it is grass-fed because grass-fed butter, for example, has more omega-3s. Fermented dairy products are also OK for some paleo eaters because they have a lower content of lactose and casein, the two concerns paleo dieters have with dairy.

Get yourself a top round roast and slice it as thinly as you can (or get your butcher to do it). The best jerky is made with just a few ingredients (but everyone’s taste buds are different). You’ll want to combine coconut aminos, some spices, and coconut sugar (yes, it isn’t totally Paleo; you can use honey instead). If you want the flavor that liquid smoke imparts, feel free to add it in. Put all the ingredients into a bowl, throw in the meat, stir it around, cover it, and put it in your fridge for at least 12 hours.


Roll the dough into 8 (75-gram) balls and place the remaining 1/4 cup (43 grams) of chocolate chips on the top and on the sides of the dough balls. You can also roll them into 16 smaller balls but then you need to adjust the baking time (a few minutes less than recommended below). Place 4" apart on the prepared baking sheet. Press the cookies down lightly with the palm of your hand.
Grains like wheat, barley, oats and corn simply don’t stack up on the nutritional front, with modern cultivars engineered for speed of growth and pest resistance rather than nutrient density. What’s more, the milling process tends to remove most of the nutrients that remain in those grains, meaning the end product is virtually pure carbohydrate. Throw in a heady dose of anti-nutrients like lectins and phytates, and one starts to see why grains are better left off the menu.
Healthy granola is hard to find because most supermarket options are loaded with sugars and unnatural additives, not to mention grains and oats that make them Paleo-unfriendly. Growing research continues to suggest that eating a diet consisting of mostly whole foods is associated with more weight loss (2,3,4). Not to mention that highly processed foods tend to be higher in added sugar, sodium and trans fats, which research suggests may play a role in increased inflammation and actually counteract your weight loss efforts (5).  
I have been a chef for many years and had to go paleo due to health issues so I felt like I was missing out on cookies! I have to say these were the best choc chip gluten free cookies I have ever eaten felt like I was eating gluten cookies if not better! I followed the recipe to the letter I used unrefined coconut oil but I just wanted to ask what type of coconut oil do you use for this recipe refined or unrefined? Also can you use less coconut sugar? I love them as they are just thought to ask for other people sake some like less sweet things :) thanks a ton for this recipe your a blessing :)
Amanda -I haven’t ever tried them with less baking soda, but you might be able to give it a try. Baking soda often helps cookies spread (baking powder often “puffs,” baking soda often “spreads”), so you’d probably have some spread differences. If they spread too much, you can head this off by adding an additional 1-2 Tbsp of flour to the batter. If they don’t spread, you might be able to use less flour to offset the problem. Again, I don’t know for sure since I haven’t tested them with less baking soda, but I’d love to know what you think if you give them a try. (I just know how expensive paleo baking ingredients are, so I’d hate for you to have to waste any!)
One other thing to note here is that I pre-make some of these ingredients, which takes time, but at least it’s not taking time in the middle of the day when I’m trying to work or rush out the door. Also, I don’t mind eating food cold. I know a lot of people can’t stomach the idea of eating cold meat, although that really confuses me because Subway makes billions of dollars every year selling cold meat. Anyway, you can always heat these things up at work or home. And without further ado…

I’ve made these numerous times now after a friend recommended them, and they are fantastic!! I wouldn’t say they’re a healthy substitute to normal/traditional chocolate chip cookies because they’re not quite the same. Rather, I’d say these are in a different category: much more moist, rich with hints of coconut that do not overpower the cookie, and an excellent satiation for the carb- and sugar-wary sweet tooth. Be sure to at least double the recipe because 12 cookies will NOT be enough!


This could be the perfect trail mix. It’s full of crunch from a variety of nuts, sweetness from coconut flakes and banana chips and just the right amount of chocolate to curb those cravings. It comes together right in the slow cooker, so your kitchen will smell amazing! Be sure to use coconut oil or ghee instead of butter here to keep it strictly Paleo.
These crackers are easy to prepare and it’s always a good idea to have a crunchy food around to munch on. These are very versatile, you can use them to scoop up any dip you create, or you can make a chicken salad and use them for that as well. They only have three ingredients, so it’s easy enough to keep stocked up and since it doesn’t take long to make these you don’t have to worry about storing them you can just make them as you need them so they’re fresh and crispy.

I popped one before my workout yesterday morning and it was perfect. I couldn’t get over how great the texture turned out. You must have tested them a lot to get the texture so perfect. If you’re looking for a fresh fruit alternative, look no further than fruit leathers or fruit strips. This product can be found at most pharmacies, grocery stores, and even gas stations, but be careful because not all fruit leathers are good Paleo snacks. Check the list of ingredients on the back of the box carefully before purchasing. Your healthier fruit leather options will be those will minimal ingredients, like fruit and water. Stretch Island Fruit Co. makes great all-natural fruit leathers in a variety of flavors, like raspberry and strawberry, that Paleo bloggers and chefs love.
These were SO GOOD. I made them with honey and a flax egg and oh my gosh, they turned out so good. Allergic to eggs so that is why I went the flax egg route, but used honey since I didn’t have any coconut sugar left- turned out AMAZING. I also melted my almond butter and coconut oil together and then put the mixture in the fridge before rolling into balls and sprinkled with sea salt before baking, but my goodness, seriously the most amazing fudgey treat 🙂

Fasting for a predetermined period of time, shortening the eating window. Popular IF protocols include daily 16 hour fasts with 8 hour feeding windows, or weekly 24 hour fasts. Less of a “diet,” more of a philosophy. You can combine damn near any diet with a practice of intermittent fasting, be it Paleo, Primal, vegan, vegetarian, Bulletproof, Standard American, or anything between.

Hello. This was my first time making a paleo/gf cookie. They came out pretty tasty but are a little too coconut-y for my liking (I think maybe I used too much coconut oil, which I will adjust next time). However, something might have been off with my dough overall b/c it was brown in color, not light like yours. Maybe I just need to use a little more almond flour & a little less coconut sugar, but I welcome any thoughts/suggestions you have. I will definitely be trying again. Thanks!
These gummy snacks are billed as being anti-inflammatory and use a host of ingredients that have been shown to help curb inflammation in the body, namely turmeric and ginger. The way they’ve made these into gummy form is through the use of gelatin, which is definitely a go on Paleo. There’s also other healthy items to really make these a vitamin-packed snack, including citrus juice of your choice and raw honey. By using natural ingredients like raw honey you’re eating food that is as close to nature as possible.
