Kudos! I tried 4 different paleo/grain-free cookie recipes today, plus 1 mix. For a holiday cookie party I’m attending, I’m making choc chip s’more cookies (2 cookies with marshmallow between, then dip half the “sandwich” in dark choc). I had to find a great paleo or at least GF option for the choc chip cookies. I tried a mix that worked well, so I knew I had that back up but I don’t want to spend that much on mix, plus it seems like a cop out. Hence the 4 well-rated choc chip cookie recipes I auditioned tonight…

All types of poultry are great to include in a balanced paleo diet and are particularly valuable for those who are very active and, therefore, have higher protein needs. To ensure that the chicken you consume is as natural as possible, look for free range or organic varieties. If you’re trying to lose weight, keep in mind the fact that some cuts of chicken such as thighs contain more fat and calories than others and adjust your quality accordingly.

I’ve been doing a lot of sweets lately and I think it needs to come to an end! My kids would rather I not stop though 🙂 And I agree that outside pressure often gets us to do things that aren’t good for us – a lot of times without realizing. It’s hard to step back and figure out what’s actually good for US on the inside. I struggle with that sort of thing often.

While very different than most snacks-in-a-box popular on the SAD (Standard American Diet), it only takes a little imagination and willingness to try out new things to discover a whole new world of healthy possibilities. For example, numerous healthy dips can be prepared with good fats and flavors from citrus fruits like lemons or limes as well as herbs and spices. Such dips can be enjoyed with simple raw vegetables or with chips made with starchy vegetables like plantains or sweet potatoes.
That means eating meat and animal products from animals raised in the most natural (or wild) conditions, eating plenty of varied vegetables and smaller amounts of fruit, nuts and seeds, and not being shy in adding generous amounts of healthy, stable fats to our fresh meats and produce. Because it came from an animal, practically all meats are paleo. However, it’s important to look for meats that are as natural as possible. This means that on the paleo diet you should opt for grass fed, wild-caught and organic varieties. Not only do these have a superior nutritional profile, they’re also less likely to be full of harmful preservatives, antibiotics, steroids and pesticides which are commonly added to animal feed. You’ll also want to avoid meats that have been highly processed such as hot dogs, spam and lunch meats. The added preservatives, flavor enhances and sugar in these foods have been linked to increased risk of developing cancer and heart disease.
Avocados make a great snack all by themselves, but they can be a little bland sometimes, and this is a great way to doll them up so they’re even tastier. This uses Greek yogurt, which is a fermented form of dairy and considered acceptable by some following the Paleo plan. Others see it as dairy is dairy and don’t eat it, so it’s up to you to decide if you want to incorporate a bit of fermented dairy like Greek yogurt into your diet or not. The rest of the recipe is just a bit of seasoning to help the avocado out in the flavor department.
