I’m vegan, and my boyfriend is (mostly) paleo. As soon as November hit I got a serious craving for chocolate chip cookies! I wanted to make something we could both enjoy, and after much research, I landed here. My guy is a chef, so he’s quite the critic. Until NOW, I haven’t been able to impress him with vegan/grain free cookies. This recipe is perfect! I made my own almond butter (wouldn’t have if I hadn’t run out…a blessing in disguise!), and used the coconut sugar, chilling it like you said. Luckily I didn’t bake them all at once, or they’d be gone! Thank you for this! :)
These crackers are easy to prepare and it’s always a good idea to have a crunchy food around to munch on. These are very versatile, you can use them to scoop up any dip you create, or you can make a chicken salad and use them for that as well. They only have three ingredients, so it’s easy enough to keep stocked up and since it doesn’t take long to make these you don’t have to worry about storing them you can just make them as you need them so they’re fresh and crispy.

That’s it! No butter, no eggs, no chilling the dough (or rolling it out). You just need four ingredients and a little elbow grease. After about 10 minutes of baking, you’re rewarded with macaron-flavored cookies that are crisp on the edges and chewy in the center.

Steam it, bake it, fry it in paleo-friendly fats or turn it into a pizza base, cauliflower rice, taco wraps or a low-carb version of mashed potatoes. In addition to preventing cancer, heart disease and weight gain, is there anything cauliflower can’t do?
A more controversial argument for why legumes and common grains are avoided is because of their high phytic acid content, which is thought to reduce the absorption of certain nutrients like iron zinc and calcium (6). However, phytic acid is also found in many paleo approved foods (like almonds and hazelnuts), and is associated with some health benefits - like protective benefits against kidney stones, antioxidant properties and a suggested link to lower risk for colon cancer (7,8,9). Bottom line, there really isn't any evidenced based reason to avoid these foods because of phytic acid.

These almond flour banana cookies are made with 100% good for you ingredients and have zero added sugar. ← And I'm fully aware that under most circumstances those two statements would not be a cookie selling feature, but these are paleo breakfast cookies so I guessing that if you're here it's because you want a healthy cookie recipe. So let's not try to hide it. These paleo cookies are all the good and healthy things.
Generally, vegetables are dense in fiber and essential vitamins and minerals and are thus a required part of a balanced Paleo diet. Balance is key here: vegetables, while essential, are best consumed alongside a variety of food groups. They, nor any other food group, cannot alone constitute a healthy diet. More than that, not all vegetables are created equal, nutrition-wise. They are, however, delicious and provide tons of creative opportunities to diversify your diet!
Hi! This might seem like an odd question, but do you think I could bake / cook these on an electric griddle? 5 mins, then a flip and 5 mins more? I am thinking to try this at preschool and want a recipe that will cater to all children, with respect to food allergies / sensitivities or parents nutritional wishes. We don’t have an oven, just the electric griddle pan. Thoughts?
Yes I’m superstitious and so far I did the same thing to my body this time that I did last year. I never had issues training or running halfs so I’m seriously considering my reasons to marathon… I think if it were just me I’d run halfs. So that tells me I’m letting outside pressure get to me for no reason. I’d rather run forever then hang up my laces. Sorry rant over but I’m really happy to make these powerful discoveries:)

Juli, I made 5 of your recipes on Sunday. They were all wonderful. On the triple protein burgers I substituted Spicy Italian Sausage for the hot dogs. WOW!!!!! It was awesome….so was the Avocado Chorizo Sweet Potato Skins….that is now my favorite sweet potato recipe! When is the next cookbook coming out? Your first one is being delivered tomorrow…..your favorite recipe?
This is a cute snack that can help you cool off on a hot summer day or night, and won’t impact your Paleo eating one bit. That’s because it uses just two ingredients in this sandwich, so it’s just a matter of cutting them up and eating them. The way they’ve presented it makes it a great party dish, because who doesn’t like eating things off of toothpicks. The trickiest part is getting the cucumbers and watermelon to be cut into the same sized squares so that they look good. If you’re just making a snack for yourself you don’t have to be so exact.
Grains like wheat, barley, oats and corn simply don’t stack up on the nutritional front, with modern cultivars engineered for speed of growth and pest resistance rather than nutrient density. What’s more, the milling process tends to remove most of the nutrients that remain in those grains, meaning the end product is virtually pure carbohydrate. Throw in a heady dose of anti-nutrients like lectins and phytates, and one starts to see why grains are better left off the menu.
Grass-fed meat is recommended on the paleo diet because it is leaner than meat from grain-fed animals and has more omega-3 fatty acids, the healthy fats that reduce inflammation in the body and protect your heart. A typical American diet is high in saturated and trans fats and lower in healthy poly- and monounsaturated fats, hence the paleo diet's emphasis on grass-fed meats, as well as seafood.
I just made these for the first time and they are INCREDIBLE!! The only major modification I made was adding half the coconut sugar and I was pleasantly surprised that they are plenty sweet without the other 1/4 cup 🙂 I also ended up adding a few splashes of almond milk (I think my almond butter wasn’t well mixed and therefore a little too dry). I just made these and they are so good! I used honey because I made these on a whim and didn’t have coconut sugar (plus it’s snowing here and I didn’t want to go out). My almond butter was very dry so I did have peanut/almond butter. Also had to crush up a dark chocolate bar because no chips on hand. I love how your recipes are so easy to play around with. “Many people have a Fred Flintstone notion of Paleo, that it’s meat-centric,” says Julie Mayfield, coauthor of Weeknight Paleo. In fact, she says, meat portions should be no bigger than the size of your palm, with vegetables filling the rest of the plate along with some fruit. “I’ve had countless people who didn’t know what it’s like not to be bloated until they took out grains and dairy,” she says. “It’s like someone with poor eyesight putting on a pair of glasses.”
Almond butter and most other nut butters, like sunflower, coconut, hazelnut, and cashew butter, are Paleo-friendly and make for a tasty treat. Try nut butter spread on bananas or apples for a healthy snack, or even just a spoonful right out of the jar, which is a decadent treat. If you’re counting calories, cashew butter has the fewest, at about 94 per tablespoon, followed by almond butter with 98. Plus, nuts offer a ton of health benefits, including fighting diseases such as heart disease and cancer, so here are more reasons to snack on them. Note: Peanuts are not Paleo, which means peanut butter is off limits.

With seafood, wild and sustainably caught is always best, as is sourcing your seafood from areas that are less likely to suffer from pollution and heavy metal contamination. Generally speaking, larger predatory fish are more likely to have higher levels of heavy metals than smaller fish and mollusks. It’s not a reason to avoid larger fish entirely, but it’s good to balance intake between larger and smaller fish varieties if you’re concerned about pollution.

Yes, I’ve used half coconut flour. Still in the oven but they tasted good before I put them in! I also found them too crumbly the first time I made them, so I added a flax egg and half a cup of almond milk and then squeezed them into balls and flattened them. Much better consistency. And I find they need to bake 2-3 minutes longer, maybe even a bit more.

They are actually pretty healthy too because they only have 1 tablespoon of oil in the whole batch and only 2 tablespoons of honey. I sweetened them up with a little applesauce too.
We love nuts and they are decidedly paleo diet friendly. Be careful though, as cashews are high in fat and, for some reason, it’s incredibly easy to eat an entire jar of them in one sitting (that’s not just us, is it?). If you’re trying to lose weight, limit the amount of nuts you’re consuming. Otherwise, have at it. I mean, you can’t beat a good almond/pecan/walnut mix, can you?

The Primal Blueprint leaves room for legumes (other than unfermented, organic soy) in close moderation, but those on a paleo diet tend to steer clear of them. Like nuts and seeds, legumes contain anti-nutrients like lectins, phytates and saponins. Unlike nuts and seeds, however, legumes tend to be consumed in large quantities, potentially preventing your body from absorbing sufficient nutrients for optimum health.
Of course, snacking is completely optional on a Paleo diet. In fact, many people end up naturally eating only two meals per day, but it doesn’t mean that snacking is a bad idea, especially if the snack only contains healthy ingredients and prevents you from indulging with bad foods. They can also be great when on the go or as something to eat post workout. Just remember that your snacks should respect the basic principles of Paleo. This means that most fruits and nuts should be consumed only in moderation. Most fruits are high in the sugar fructose, which is toxic in higher doses and most nuts are high in polyunsaturated fat (PUFA), especially the omega-6 PUFA. Refer to my article on nuts and seeds to know about the best choices. This also means that snacks containing mainly saturated fat or animal protein are usually great.

When it comes to selecting the best fats to include in your paleo diet, almost any natural source is acceptable. This includes refined animal fats (choose naturally-raised, organic varieties), nuts oils (except for peanut which isn’t a nut), avocados and all parts of the coconut. Always avoid processed fats that contain harmful trans fats and try to ensure that you’re consuming a good balance of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids to minimize inflammation within your body. To help you to do this, avoid seed oils such as canola, soybean and vegetables oils and include fatty fish in your diet regularly.
This is a list of paleo diet meats allowed on the diet. Almost all meats are paleo by definition. Of course, you’ll want to stay away from highly processed meats and meats that are very high in fat (stuff like spam, hot dogs, and other low-quality meats), but if it used to moo, oink, or make some other sound, it’s almost certainly paleo (and, yes, that means you can still have bacon). This recipe is using grass-fed ricotta cheese stuffed into strawberries, which are then wrapped in proscuitto. Every once in awhile we will splurge on the movie popcorn, but usually I have a purse packed with my favorite coconut oil and sea salt popcorn plus a few of these paleo chocolate chip cookies. Guys, they are RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Think addicting, thick, chewy and full of melted dark chocolate puddles.
Although not all of these are strict paleo (some contain coconut sugar and other paleo-friendly sweeteners), they are free from refined sugars, dairy, and grains. Stash them in your desk at work, hide them in your glove compartment, or place them in your purse. That way, you have a paleo-friendly snack always within reach and won’t be tempted to go off plan. You can’t go wrong with curried cashews, as cashews are one of the more popular Paleo Nuts, and curry is a Paleo approved spice. They use honey to add a bit of sweetness to these, which only makes them more satisfying because it can hit your craving for sweet as well as savory. The best part is you can make a big batch of these and then divvy them up into smaller containers to use throughout the following week. They also point out that you can make curried pecans instead, if you happen to have pecans on hand and not cashews.
FYI Scott Madden the Paleo diet is really just a general blueprint and most people just do the best that they can–some also just eat according to what they can handle or need and still consider it “paleo.” There are also many different options when it comes to protein powder (many people use pea, hemp etc) and not all of them contain wheat, soy, casein or whey.

Vegetable oils aren’t really made from vegetables, which is why we’re still really confused how they came upon that name. They are usually made from junk oils that really aren’t fit for human consumption. These oils are very high in omega-6 fatty acids, which promote inflammation (as opposed to omega-3 fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory). They are debatably one of the major causes of heart disease, and are basically junk oils. While saturated fat remains demonized by mainstream nutrition, it really isn’t the culprit in poor health. These omega-6, junky oils are far more devastating for long-term health.
This Caprese-style salad is a great Paleo snack when you have just-right produce or an abundance of basil to use up. You’ll substitute mozzarella for creamy avocado loaded on fresh tomato slices. Top each tomato with basil, drizzle with balsamic vinegar and oil and enjoy. This one is great to enjoy while sitting outdoors enjoying a hot summer night.
These veggie roll ups are great to make ahead of time, and it’s a good idea to plan snacks into your day, rather than waiting until you get hungry and then frantically making something. Cucumber acts as the roll, and a tomato is the prize inside. Cashews act as a nice filling to help hold it all together, once they get blended up into a sort of paste. Olive oil, garlic, sea salt and basil are all Paleo goodies, so you can feel totally fine by having this as a snack anytime you get hungry and it’s not time for a full meal.

While Paleo may seem like a low-carb diet, this isn’t its hallmark. There are many low-carb packaged foods with added sweeteners and other artificial ingredients, but a perfectly Paleo kitchen is completely devoid of packaged or processed foods and artificial ingredients, consisting only of fresh foods that are rich in nutrients—including starchy vegetables such as sweet potatoes. In fact, if you already don’t eat a lot of cereal, bread, and pasta, switching to a Paleo diet probably won’t significantly reduce your carb intake.

Unlike many traditional stuffed pepper recipes, these stuffed bell peppers are stuffed with things you might actually eat while watching the big game. Basically it entails mixing up a batch of buffalo chicken salad, complete with chicken, hot sauce, and bleu cheese, and then stuffing them into a pepper. Longtime readers know that they won’t find many Paleo desserts on my blog or in my cookbook or app. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the occasional sweet treat; I’m an admitted recovering sugar addict, after all. I have 9 Paleo snack recipes when you’re on the go so you can stay on track with minimal effort. These are good ideas for work, snacks at home, children’s snacks, and vacations. Sometimes eating on the Paleo diet can be kind of hard. Especially when you are traveling or always on the go. And extra EXTRA hard if you are traveling with kids AND doing the paleo diet. Whew! This is the first review on a recipe I have ever left, which is saying a lot. I’ve tried lots of Paleo desserts, and most of them aren’t good. These cookies really are great and probably the best classic cookie I’ve ever had, period. Wonderful flavor. The only thing I changed was I used coconut manna instead of butter. The only question I have is if this caused my cookies to not really fall much from the balled dough. They sort of held a ball like shape. I did try flattening them some before baking, but that seemed to make them slightly crunchier. Just wondering if anyone knew. Also, I literally ate 6 of these just now and I have never eaten that many cookies in one sitting…good thing they’re packed with great ingredients.
