Generally, vegetables are dense in fiber and essential vitamins and minerals and are thus a required part of a balanced Paleo diet. Balance is key here: vegetables, while essential, are best consumed alongside a variety of food groups. They, nor any other food group, cannot alone constitute a healthy diet. More than that, not all vegetables are created equal, nutrition-wise. They are, however, delicious and provide tons of creative opportunities to diversify your diet!
If you’re looking for a fresh fruit alternative, look no further than fruit leathers or fruit strips. This product can be found at most pharmacies, grocery stores, and even gas stations, but be careful because not all fruit leathers are good Paleo snacks. Check the list of ingredients on the back of the box carefully before purchasing. Your healthier fruit leather options will be those will minimal ingredients, like fruit and water. Stretch Island Fruit Co. makes great all-natural fruit leathers in a variety of flavors, like raspberry and strawberry, that Paleo bloggers and chefs love.
Most nights after dinner I find myself in a constant dessert dilemma aka CDD; it’s the urge to have a late night sweet, but also the want for it to be made with ingredients I can feel good about eating. Indulgences are fine every once in awhile, but most of the time, I want to put feel-good food in my body. So… that’s why I love baking at home! I can make food with the ingredients I already have in my pantry.
The fact that vegetable oils are still so prevalent in today’s world is a testament to just how aggressively they’ve been marketed, lobbied, and subsidized. But just because everyone else is using them doesn’t mean you should, and you most definitely shouldn’t if you’re planning on going full paleo (or Primal). The following oils are typically ultra-processed and pro-inflammatory on account of their high levels of omega-6 fatty acids.
Even if you’re not purely Paleo, boiled eggs should be a part of your diet for so many reasons. Not only are they super easy to cook (12 minutes on the stove on average with no mixing or stirring), but eggs are filled with proteins, vitamins, minerals, and good fats. Plus one large egg has only about 80 calories. Boiled eggs can even be found at the grocery store precooked and in packs of two, making it a great grab-and-go Paleo snack. If you’re not a fan of the hardboiled variety, try one of these egg-tastic breakfast cooking tips that we promise you’ll love.

Get yourself a top round roast and slice it as thinly as you can (or get your butcher to do it). The best jerky is made with just a few ingredients (but everyone’s taste buds are different). You’ll want to combine coconut aminos, some spices, and coconut sugar (yes, it isn’t totally Paleo; you can use honey instead). If you want the flavor that liquid smoke imparts, feel free to add it in. Put all the ingredients into a bowl, throw in the meat, stir it around, cover it, and put it in your fridge for at least 12 hours.

I have been baking gluten free for over 10 years and thought I had tried every cookie recipe out there, but alas I had not. I just made this recipe exactly as written and it is truly THE BEST GLUTEN FREE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE OUT THERE! I wasn’t going to make them so big because I like to indulge in moderation but I decided to try giant cookies and I may never go back! I believe the size plays a big part in the success of this cookie but I’ll try them smaller next time and let you know the difference! I used butter and coconut sugar and followed the directions – AMAZING!
These are great! I do a lot of gf baking but usually use a gf flour mix (like Bob’s) so was curious about how these would be. Love them. Not too sweet (like so many desserts are) but definitely sweet enough. I used 1/2 butter and 1/2 coconut oil (because I like the richness butter adds, and was low on coconut oil) and texture was perfect (I love that they aren’t greasy like a lot of choc chip cookies.) And I doubled the recipe because when I make cookies I like to have lots! Toddler approved:-)
Place the chocolate shards into a glass mixing bowl. You have two options for melting the chocolate: use a double boiler or a microwave. Most folks don’t own a double boiler, but you can make your own by grabbing a metal or glass bowl that fits snugly in a medium saucepan. Fill the saucepan with about two inches of water and bring it to a simmer. Place the bowl on top of the saucepan, making sure that the water never touches the bottom of the bowl.
Perfect! I added pecans to your recipe and they came out perfect. The only issue I have is controlling myself so I don’t eat them all at once. I used butter instead of coconut oil and erythritol + molasses instead of coconut sugar to create my diabetic version of your cookie. I also added chopped pecans. Mmm-mm! Thanks. This is the best low-carb cookie recipe I’ve found.

I have been a chef for many years and had to go paleo due to health issues so I felt like I was missing out on cookies! I have to say these were the best choc chip gluten free cookies I have ever eaten felt like I was eating gluten cookies if not better! I followed the recipe to the letter I used unrefined coconut oil but I just wanted to ask what type of coconut oil do you use for this recipe refined or unrefined? Also can you use less coconut sugar? I love them as they are just thought to ask for other people sake some like less sweet things :) thanks a ton for this recipe your a blessing :)
These skittles are made totally with fruit or vegetables and coconut butter. It’s the combination of the fruits and veggies that make them so good. The recipes for all 7 different flavors are included. The ingredients listed above for maroon consist of all the ingredients. The other colors only have the ingredients listed that are not included in the maroon variety. All you need is a good blender and a food dehydrator. Although I have dried fruits in the oven before. The oven is faster but necessarily better. Just turn it on the lowest heat possible. I put links to two different dehydrators because one is way more affordable than the other. I have the cheap one and it works fine. But if you think you might use it a lot it might be worth the investment to get the more expensive one. Since the skittles are dried they can be stored at room temperature for a long time. That makes them handy to keep in your purse or bag for a time. I’ve also been known to freeze. dried foods and they keep just fine for a really long time.
So far, there’s not much research on how the Paleo Diet affects heart health. There are many good ideas in this diet, like eating fresh fruits and vegetables and staying away from foods that are fried, processed, sugary, and salty. Eating a lot of meat and other foods that are high in cholesterol, like eggs, can increase your risk for heart disease.

High in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals including magnesium, copper, vitamin E and riboflavin, almonds are a great paleo option that’s been shown to improve cognitive ability and reduce your risk of developing many degenerative disorders. They’re also alkaline which makes them great to improve your body’s ability to process insulin, improve digestion and reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis and various cancers.

Eggplants are Paleo friendly for most, but store-bought baba ghanoush can still contain loads of hidden mayo—and that can mean unwanted vegetable oils. Go for a simple, mayo-free recipe with lots of garlic and a squeeze of lemon juice for a fresher take that won’t weigh you down. Try pairing this dip with some Paleo-friendly homemade rosemary sesame crackers.

These snack bars will definitely cure you of any food cravings, which makes them great as an emergency backup while you’re on the Paleo plan. Paleo is definitely not about starving yourself, or torturing yourself by depriving yourself of enjoyable foods, and these bars are proof of that. Imagine having a supply of these at the ready for times when you’re hungry but your next meal won’t be for a few hours. You’d be able to quell any signs of hunger which can often lead to diet-ruining food choices. However, as long as you’re eating balanced Paleo meals in the proper portions you shouldn’t be getting hungry until several hours after you’ve eaten.
[…] Ultimate chewy chocolate chip cookies – you might have just met your soul mate.As you can see from the photos, I used my food processor for this job – but – I’ve heard that blending cashews into cashew cream can work well in a Vitamix too if that’s what you prefer.  I personally don’t have one yet (on my wish-list) but I’ve spoken to people who swear by it for the creamiest of creamy sauces, so I’m guessing it can handle soaked cashews like a dream. […]
Your Vitality.  Even healthy individuals (without disease or in their later stages of life) have shown benefits from following a Paleo template. A study of 14 healthy volunteers (Österdahl et al, 2008) found that all participants experienced enhanced blood sugar regulation, an increase in vitamin and mineral status, decreased inflammation and weight, and lowered blood pressure.
The perfect cookie for a winter themed, “Frozen” themed or even a Christmas party. Kids love them, especially little girls that love the movie “Frozen”. They are made with only a few ingredients so they are pretty easy to make. I made mine by using a piping bag and a large star tip so you don’t need a cookie press unless you already have one or want to buy one. They are like a crisp butter cookie with almost a shortbread texture. The coconut palm sugar is the only sweetener that will achieve a crisp cookie. So don’t try to replace it with Honey or Maple Syrup.
These are such fun to make! I used regular sugar instead of coconut sugar because I was out. They are very quick to mix up (I didn’t wait for the nut butter or egg to come to room temperature because I am impatient) and very quick to bake. I appreciate easy, delicious, gluten free recipes that I can make with my kids and not end up irritated or with a huge mess to clean up! We will be making these again and often I suspect. Thank you for the lovely recipe.
FYI Scott Madden the Paleo diet is really just a general blueprint and most people just do the best that they can–some also just eat according to what they can handle or need and still consider it “paleo.” There are also many different options when it comes to protein powder (many people use pea, hemp etc) and not all of them contain wheat, soy, casein or whey.
While dairy products are fairly obvious, grains and legumes can be confusing. Wheat is an obvious grain, but corn and corn-based ingredients also fall into this category. Pseudo grains, such as quinoa, amaranth, and buckwheat, are generally not recommended because they can cause grain-like digestive problems. Legumes means not only beans (including soy), but peas, lentils, and peanuts (including peanut butters and oils).

If you have more questions on specific foods, we’ve included a comprehensive list of paleo diet foods below. We’ve provided a list of the foods that are allowed on the paleo diet. We’ve also broken this list down into the specific food groups, so you can see which meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and fats are on the paleo diet. In addition to all of that, we’ve also included a comprehensive list of foods not allowed on the paleo diet.
Hi. I used 1/4 cup of molasses and 3/4 cup of erythritol. When I first tasted the cookie I thought it was a little bit too sweet, but now the taste seems perfect. With the erythritol and molasses in place of sugar, I can eat the cookie without a negative impact on my blood glucose. I like them so much I’m going to bake more and send them to my mother who is also diabetic.
Don’t settle for buying Fruit Roll-Ups when you can make your own version at home, without all of the chemicals and preservatives. These leathery lookalikes deliver all the flavor you could ask from a fruit snack, because they’re really made from fruit. Apples and strawberries to be exact, and there’s even a grapefruit added for good measure. The recipe ends up making 10 strips, which should be enough to get you through the week. It’s a bit of a novelty, and a delicious way to get some vitamins and nutrients into your body.
Oh, wow. These are GOOD. I made them exactly as is. First, I couldn’t stop eating the dough (which is bad because I’m pregnant and there is raw egg). I just had my first one and I am going back for another. Love how these are healthy to help keep my pregnancy weight gain in check, but also totally craving satisfying! I will be making these again, for sure. Thank you!

These fig bars have a lot going on, and your taste buds are sure to thank you for such a nice midday treat. At the same time they are loaded with healthy things like apples, peaches, and the figs themselves. They’ve removed any trace of grains, and are using coconut flour to put them into bar form, with just the right amount of honey to make these sweet but not overly so. The use of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger really balances out the flavor profile for these, and you can eat them between breakfast and lunch, or between lunch and dinner so they’re very good to have handy.

One way to avoid eating potatoes as a snack is to replace a popular snack like potato chips with a healthier version. Using zucchini in place of the potatoes is a great idea, and gives you added nutrition. Zucchini makes a great choice to make into a chip because all it requires is some slicing and you have nice round pieces ready to be made into chips. They are easy to make, and the recipe is versatile in how it lets you dust them with whatever seasonings you like. This means you could make them BBQ Zucchini chips, or Ranch Zucchini chips, just by adding different seasonings. Just be sure to check the label on the seasoning packet to see if it’s Paleo.
Shaping the almond flour/coconut flour cookies. You can shape these cookies in the same manner as the tapioca variety, but you will need to flatten each ball of dough into a 1/2-inch thick disk on the baking sheet after rolling into a ball. The coconut flour cookies will not spread as readily. Alternatively, divide the coconut flour cookie dough into two equal portions on generous pieces of parchment paper, shape each into a log about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and wrap each tightly. Place the dough in the refrigerator to chill again for about 30 minutes. Unwrap each piece of dough, slice each into 8 pieces and place about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet.
I gave up paleo baking six months ago when I devoted myself to the 20lb subscription of Better Batter, but you’ve got me re-upping on my almond flour and coconut flour stock, opening my kitchen (and my heart) to paleo baking once again. These look amazing- I always had my paleo chocolate chippers turn out like some kind of sad, crumbly macaroon, but I trust that my children will be happy to share these with their friends. Thank you!

[…] I don't like the word "diet", so I'll say that this is more a way of changing what you eat long-term. It's all based around what our ancestor hunter-gatherers would have eaten, and what we've evolved to be able to process and absorb. The very basic level of it, is that you don't eat carbohydrates, processed meats or sugars, and cut out dairy products. You instead eat plenty of fresh meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and nuts. You can still have oil, provided it's natural – so coconut, peanut & olive oil are all good. The good thing is that you're also allowed to take this to your own level – so if you want a couple of days off a week – say, weekends, you can do it & it will still be a lot healthier for you. This is a really helpful site I've used to make a note on my shopping list of what's allowed: The Ultimate Paleo Diet Food List | Ultimate Paleo Guide […]
Whole30 is a diet designed to reset the way your body functions by completely eliminating foods that may be causing problems for 30 days. The rules are firm, and there’s no room for cheating, because it would defeat the resetting process. Paleo, on the other hand, is an ongoing style of eating, and occasional, non-Paleo food is generally considered part of a realistic routine.
